Members of the Eden Mennonite Church will be hosting their Country Festival this weekend.
The festival will get underway at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast, followed by a “5K Run Through the Country,” with registration for the run available on-site at the church.
Also scheduled will be a live auction at 9:30 a.m., held by Chupps Auction Company and featuring a Mennonite handmade quilts, baby quilts, dishtowels, vintage and antique items, with live music under the tent to follow the auction.
“It’s going to be a wonderful day — a day meant to be enjoyed outdoors in the beautiful setting of rural Rogers County,” said church member Rose Walton. “Even if it rains — which it’s not supposed to this weekend — there’s still plenty of activities indoors for people to enjoy — the bake sale, a quilting demonstration, craft sale, candy shop, and a smoked chicken dinner.”
Other activities will include a kid’s zone, with an inflatables obstacle course, horseback rides, miniature train rides, jewelry making, pie dough rolling, carrot peeling, and rock painting.
“We would encourage everyone to bring their appetite also, as there will be kettle corn, homemade ice cream, ‘made on sit’ apple butter, and various ethnic foods — Unrau’s German sausage, New Year’s cookies, peppernuts, or simple hot dogs with kraut,” she said. “All food items will be priced to be family friendly.”
Other outdoor activities will include carriage rides, a Paso Fino horse drill team show, car show, and Amish “Horsin’ Around,” which will feature Amish men and boys competing at unique games while on horseback.
“We’ll be hosting several events for the kids to participate in,” Walton said.
