A contract has been awarded in phase one of Claremore's sidewalk improvement project.

Monday night Claremore City Council awarded the project to the best lowest bidder, J.E. Dirt Works LLC.

This phase of the improvement project comes with a price tag of $143,178.

"This is a Community Development Block Grant project, the first phase of sidewalk improvements. This was a recently advertised for bids and we received seven sealed bids on the project," said Jill Ferenc, the city's Director of Planning and Development, adding that factoring in the city's budget and the grant funding, additional alternates were added to the scope of the project.

"The goal of phase one and two is to have a nice east/west connection from Highway 66 to Seminole," Ferenc said. "And it improves the sidewalks close to the school administration building."

When they announced they were seeking bids Ferenc described the scope of phase one saying: “the bid will include a base bid amount for sidewalk improvements on 11th street between Missouri and Choctaw, in front of Claremore's School Administration Building and sidewalk improvements around the west side of that building on Muskogee.”

The goal is to incorporate a pedestrian loop around that building. The bids will also include improvements around 7th Street to Choctaw.

At that time she said possible improvements on Florence and 10th Street were being considered.
