While Rib Crib’s motto may be “Keeping it saucy,” the barbecue chain will be keeping it merry this month with its Holiday Toys & Hugs Drive.
Following suit with other branches in the barbecue restaurant chain, Rib Crib in Claremore will be accepting donations of toys and essential items this month, to help make the holidays a little brighter for local families.
“Many families live in poverty and are unable to celebrate Christmas, or even to provide some of the basic needs for their children,” said Claremore Rib Crib General Manager Haley Zabsky. “To offer them help and hope during the holidays, Rib Crib is hosting a drive for toys and essential items, which we’re calling ‘hugs’ to be donated to Emergency Infant Services, who will then give it to area families in need.”
Emergency Infant services (EIS) is a Tulsa-based non-profit organization which assists over 18,000 infants and toddlers each year.
“We’re asking for new, unwrapped gifts for children from newborn to five years old, thing like building blocks, educational baby toys, dolls, toy cars, action figures, stuffed animals, etc., and for ‘hugs’, essentials like gloves, glove sets, scarves, underwear, diapers, wipes, socks, and hats,” Zabsky said. “Even if someone doesn’t want to come in, they can come through the drive-thru and make a donation.”
Although collections thus far have been “a little slow,” Zabsky said she’s hopeful that donations will pick up in the coming weeks as the need is great.
“We’re wanting to be able to help a lot of people this holiday,” she said. “This (drive) is a great cause, and we’re thrilled to be doing our part to help with making Christmas a little brighter for our community.”
Rib Crib’s Toys & Hugs Drive will be ongoing through Friday, Dec. 15.
