The Elms Motel is coming down.
A long-standing Claremore motel is being demolished this week.
In February of 2016, Jeri Koehler, then Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority director, said a developer out of Texas had purchased the property with plans on creating retail and restaurant space.
At that time Koehler said the city had been working on the project for about a year. Around that time the developer was expected to sign an agreement and the residents living there would be told they needed to find a new residence.
That development reportedly fell-through and the property was brought back to city council attention this past May.
In May the council was reminded the 1.99 acre site is a two-lot property. Jill Ferenc with the city planning office said an applicant was looking to plat the property pursuant to the city's land development code.
“The restaurant that is looking to go into lot one is Cotton Patch Cafe. We're excited to help them through the development process,” Ferenc said in May. “The second lot, that is just under one acre, is a commercial site that is available.”
This week Ferenc said, "The property was under contract for some time, and they recently closed on the property so it under new ownership. Cotton Patch Café as submitted building and site plans and is ready for a building permit. They intend to develop on one of the two platted lots.”
