Funeral service for Marjorie Elouise Perkins will be 2 p.m., Monday, May 19, at Inola Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Weldon Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday 1-6 p.m., and family will greet friends 4-6 p.m.

Marjorie died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her home at the age of 89.

The daughter of Jessie Leonard and Sarah Josephine (Tindall) Schmitz was born April 30, 1919, in Watervalley, Miss. Marjorie graduated from Watervalley High School. On Aug. 29, 1947, Marjorie married L.D. Perkins in Hernando, Miss.

Marjorie worked for Sears Roebuck and then Ely Walker, Inc. both in Memphis, Tenn. She retired in 1981. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn. She was a devout Christian and enjoyed singing in the choir. Marjorie also enjoyed growing and arranging bouquets of flowers for every Sunday morning service. She was so talented, but her favorite hobbies were working in her rose garden, bird watching, sewing, collecting antiques, and cooking. During holidays she would cook for endless hours preparing her childrens and grandchildrens favorite dishes. No one in the family will ever forget her delicious macaroni and cheese and chocolate pie.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Mary Fullerton of Claremore, Dorothy Wiginton of Claremore, Faye Newsom of Jacksonville, Fla., Jerry Perkins of Clarksville, Tenn., and Ann Zaber of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren: Bennie Fullerton and wife, Jean of Inola, Connie Leatherwood of Coldwater, Miss., Tina Carter of Memphis, Tenn., Scott Newsom of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Newsom of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Blake Leatherwood of Coldwater, Miss, Brandy Barron of Dyer, Tenn, Beth Carter of Milan, TN, Jermmy Carter of Milan, Tenn., Andy Fullerton and wife, Julie of Inola, Jennifer Spurlock and husband, Dustin of Inola, and Dusty Bump and wife, Kim of Inola; great-great-grandchildren: Austin Fullerton of Chelsea, Baylee Fullerton of Chelsea, Tomi Fullerton of Inola, Ashleigh Crews of Inola, Cailey Spurlock of Inola, Jordan Spurlock of Inola, Hannah Bump of Inola, and Rowdy Bump of Inola; brother, Milton Schmitz of Greenfield, Tenn.; and sisters: Ruth Ladd of Memphis, Tenn., Jewel Edwards of Watervalley, MS, and Ruby Niblett of Jackson, Miss.. She also leaves her chihuahua “Little Bit” who has been a beloved and devoted companion for the past 14 years, providing her with unconditional love.

She is preceded in death by her husband, L.D.; infant daughter, Carolyn Jean Walker; her parents; and brother, Ralph Schmitz.

The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice and their staff for the excellent care they provided during our mother’s illness. The love, compassion, and support that was given to us and our mother was unmeasurable.
