CLAREMORE —

A celebration of the life of Catherian L. Smith will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Rejoice Church in Owasso. Cathe passed away on December 23, 2013.  She was 68.
Born on January 8, 1945 in Drumright, OK to Cleo and Jessie (White) Matherly, Cathe was raised and educated in Torrence, CA.  In 1974 Cathe graduated from barber school and she then went on to start her own business “Hair by Cathe,” a barber shop in Pryor where she lived.
A wonderful mother and grandmother, Cathe was affectionately referred to as “Mimi” by her children and grandchildren.  Cathe loved to spend time with her family and shower them with love.  Her favorite times were spent with her family playing cards, dominoes, farkle, dice or just whatever the kids wanted to do.  The family enjoyed spending time at their Mimi’s house and she often came up with fun things for the grandchildren. Cathe through her own devices and to her grandchildren’s great enjoyment would provide a day of pony rides at her home.  She also enjoyed watching the family as they were target practicing, shooting rockets, or riding go-carts and motorcycles.  She was a fun Mimi that loved to have a great time with her family.
Every year during Christmas time, Cathe, the doting grandmother, would create homemade Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren with their pictures.  She loved to do whatever she could to make her family’s holidays special.  Cathe was creative and enjoyed making all those treasured gifts for her family.
She was also referred to as being a MacGyver, always utilizing what she had to make it work.  One of her favorite phrases was “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”  A selfless and patriotic person, Cathe always wanted to care for veterans and show her appreciation for their sacrifice.  She loved being outdoors and gardening.  She enjoyed dancing and music and liked to mention that she shared a birthday with Elvis Presley.   Cathe also loved to praise the Lord.  She recently told her family “Don’t cry for me, I’m with the Lord.”  Cathe also proclaimed to her family, “When it’s your time, it’s your time.”
This loving mother, grandmother and friend will be missed by all who knew her.  Cathe is survived by her children RaeLynne Grant and husband Jerry Bob of Tom, OK, Debbie Smith of Tulsa, Doug Smith and wife Staci of Catoosa, Cindy Randall and husband Jeff of Owasso and Marc Smith and his fiancée Johncy DuFresne; 8 grandchildren Crystal Davis, Jami Davis, Matthew Jones, Allen Randall, Julia Smith, Jenna Randall, Jori Smith and Harleigh Phillips; brothers Michael Matherly, Galan Matherly, Ronnie Miller, Erick Miller, Grant Miller and Earl Wayne Polvado; sisters Marie Bordner, Frannie Farley, Gala Matherly, Diane Miller and Charlotte Slemp; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as a host of friends.  Cathe is preceded in death by her mother and step-father Jessie and Erwood Eli Polvado, father and step-mother Cleo and Deloris Matherly, and brother Monte Matherly.
