Danny Walter Davis

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Danny Walter Davis will be 3 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Destiny Life Church.

Danny passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. He was 77.

Born in Berthoud, Colo. on Nov. 18, 1936 to Ben and Mamie (Cearly) Davis, Danny was reared and educated in Colorado. At the age of 18 Danny joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country until receiving his honorable discharge. On March 16, 1963 Danny married the love of his life, Sue Collins, in a ceremony in San Jose, CA.  Their union was blessed with two children, Mark and Michele. They lived in California for 10 years where Danny worked for a major moving company. He loved to tell stories of driving 18 wheelers up and down the streets of San Francisco. He also specifically recalled moving some of the 49ers football team, one of Liberace’s baby grand pianos and one of the first computers that was as large as the semi-truck he delivered it on.

Danny moved his family back to his home state of Colorado where he worked at Teledyne Water Pick. He was devoted to his family and his church. He was instrumental in starting the bus ministry at Foot Hills Assembly of God in Fort Collins, Colo. with the help of the Willie George Ministries of Tulsa.  Danny held a special place in his heart for the children’s ministries, especially children’s church.  Always up for a challenge, Danny, in his effort to get more children to come to church, promised to swallow a goldfish if the goal for high attendance on Sunday was met. The goal was met and he made good on his promise!

In 1980 the family moved to Bushyhead and the Rogers county area became their permanent home. Danny worked at Centrilift and was quick to find a new church home at Destiny Life. Their country home was a quiet and peaceful change from city life. As a hardworking man, he quickly and easily took to the new country lifestyle. He was always there to help his son raise show pigs and also lend a hand to his wife’s parents that lived just down the road.

A funny and ornery person with a great sense of humor, Danny easily made friends with everyone. He was a big flirt at the nursing home and loved to talk with all the ladies that worked and lived there. Although he was quite proud of the 1956 Chevy convertible he had when he was 18, he was truly a Ford man, refusing to drive any other type of vehicle.

This loving father and grandfather will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Danny is survived by his children Mark Davis and wife Rose, Michele Vincent and husband Bill; grandchildren Joshua Davis and wife Kelsey, James Dylan Davis, Donna Barnett and husband Sam; sister Lachricia Hunt and husband Bill; numerous nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Sue Davis, his parents and brother Ray Davis.
