Dolores Mae Greenwell

CLAREMORE — Dolores Mae Greenwell died June 7, 2013, at Clarehouse Hospice in Tulsa, Okla. Dorie, as her friends and family knew her, drifted quietly from this world while doing what she loved: watching a cooking show. She was a foodie long before the term was coined. Dorie delighted in collecting new recipes, exploring the grocery store for unusual ingredients and preparing dishes for her family to try.

Dolores was born and raised in Livingston, Mont. Her parents were Edward Patrick McMahon of North Dakota and Inga Matilda Peterson of Minnesota. After graduating from Park High School in Livingston, Mont. in 1950, Dolores traveled to Los Angeles, California where she met and later married Charles F. Greenwell of Groveton, Texas in 1954. The couple started their 54-year marriage in Groveton, Texas. A few years later, the Greenwells moved to Livingston, Mont., then to Lincoln, Neb., then Burlington, Iowa, and then back to Groveton, Texas for their retirement. Dolores relocated to the Sequoyah-Claremore, Okla. area in 2008 to be closer to family following the death of her husband. Dorie held fast and tight to her independence; in that respect Dorie was always a true Montana.

Raising three boys and keeping them housed, clothed and fed was what Dolores felt was her greatest achievement.

Dorie leaves many loving friends and family behind including a sister, Donna Mayer of Livingston, Mont.; three sons,

Richard Greenwell of Pitkin, La., David Scott Greenwell of Claremore, Okla. and Bill Greenwell of Tacoma, Wash.; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dorie will be missed dearly by all of them. No services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Clarehouse Hospice at 7617 S Mingo Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74133.
