Friends may visit at the funeral home on Fri., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. before the service. Mary passed away on Tues., June 11, 2013. She was 61.
Born Oct. 31, 1951 in May, Okla. to Thomas “Bud” and Leota Josephine (Burrows) Millard, Mary received her education in several communities before her family moved to Claremore. She finished her schooling at Claremore High School, graduating with the class of 1969. During her high school years she began working alongside her mother as a lab technician at the General Hospital. Following her education she continued this career and later moved to the newly built Claremore Hospital.
On Oct. 31, 1971, Mary married Leslie J. Sanders and this union was blessed with a daughter. In the early 80’s, Mary began a new venture in her life. She loved children and enjoyed making a difference in the life of a child with special needs.
Mary started as a personal aide with a student and stayed with him through the 12th grade. During the class graduation Mary was presented her second high school diploma. Mary spent 21 years of kind and caring service to the Foyil school system as a paraprofessional.
She dearly loved her job and her kids and looked forward to each and every school year. Even after her retirement she would help out as often as she could.
Almost five years ago, Mary married Jack Pryor and together they shared their lives in the Adair community. Her kind and caring nature and listening abilities made Mary a fabulous hostess for the Pryor Elk’s Lodge Restaurant and her guests were made to feel comfortable.
During the holidays or any special occasion, she loved to entertain, but she enjoyed spending time with her family the most. She also treasured those shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter. The word Nanny was the most special word she could hear. When she was able, Mary enjoyed working in her flower garden, listening to music and dancing.
A wonderful wife, mother, nanny and friend, Mary will be missed by all that knew her. Those family members that survive include her husband Jack of their home in Adair; her daughter Shelley Duvall and husband Joe of Claremore; her granddaughter Addison; her mother Leota J. Millard of Claremore; her stepchildren Misti Pryor of Oklahoma City and Taryn Hehl and husband Brett of Bella Vista, AK; her grandchildren Hayden and Holden Hehl; her siblings Esther Strow and husband Kenny of Sand Springs, Denise St. John and Kathy Ward and husband Wayne all of Claremore and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Bud Millard and her brother Michael Millard and grandparents, Leo and Mary Edith Burrows.
