George Daniels

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of George Daniels will be today, at 2 p.m., at Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. George passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014.  He was 66.

Born in Coffeyville, Kan. on March 26, 1948 to George and Grace (Montgomery) Daniels, George was raised and educated in his birth community graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School. George continued his education at Southwest Baptist University where he earned his bachelor’s degree and completed his education by obtaining his master’s degree from Midwestern Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.

During his senior year in high school George was badly burned during a fire at a service station where he was working.  Doctors told him that he would be in the burn unit for at least 6 months but George’s faith in the Lord and his determination pulled him through in 3 months. This experience became a turning point in George’s life.  From this time, he became dedicated to preaching God’s Word.  George took great pleasure in helping young people, doing such things as teaching Sunday School and driving a school bus. George never met a stranger, and took every opportunity throughout his day to share the Word of God.

On May 2, 1979, George met the love of his life, Sandra Horine, at church.  He exclaimed “I’m gonna make that girl fall in love with me!”  Making good on that promise, they were married on December 22, 1979 and began their lives together.  George was very proud of his children.  He was particularly happy when his son followed in his footsteps to become a pastor and his daughter married a pastor.

George was a thoughtful and fun person who loved to give to others.  For his wife and her twin sister’s 50th birthday, he planned a surprise birthday party with banners that read “Happy 30th!”  George loved to give gifts but never on birthdays or holidays; he would give throughout the year so his loved ones and friends would feel special all year long. A talented musician, George could play the piano and anything with strings, often using his musical gifts to inspire and uplift his church family and friends. He was described by his friends and family as a “preacher of the good news of Jesus Christ by calling, and a truck driver by trade.”

George will be missed by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandra; children Tammy Keepers and husband Brian; James Daniels and wife Dana; grandchildren Emma and Abby Keepers, Alex and Madalyn Daniels; sister Betty Chaney; numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Jim Ward, and family. George is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Musser, and brother Ralph Daniels.
