Glenn A. DeVore

CLAREMORE — Graveside services for Glenn DeVore will be 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at Washington Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 1-7 p.m. with family receiving visitors from 5-7 p.m.

Glenn passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.  He was 71.

Born on Oct. 31, 1941 in Henryetta to Alfred and Edith (Jones) DeVore, Glenn was raised and educated in California.  Glenn married Jeannie Cooper on December 1, 1962 in a ceremony in Torrence, Calif.  Their union was blessed with 2 sons.  The family moved back to Oklahoma in 1971 and on Valentine’s Day in 1980 they made Sequoyah their home.

Glenn was a wonderful grandfather of four, with whom he loved to spend time.  He relished teaching them the hunting skills he had learned, sharing with them his passion of the outdoors and leaving with them this legacy he had passed down.

Glenn attended his grandchildren’s basketball games and other activities to show his support.

One of Glenn’s passions was cars.  He was a Mopar man and loved working on Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth cars.  If it didn’t have the Chrysler star on it, he wasn’t interested.

Glenn enjoyed racing as a young man and had a green 1969 Dodge Dart, it was a 340 with a 4 speed, that he loved to drag race and had even been known to hook up and race it on the street.

An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Glenn enjoyed camping and hunting the woods around Eufaula Lake and all over Oklahoma. He had an eagle eye and was a great shot with his sling shot or shotgun, always hitting his mark.

A member of the National Rifle Association, Glenn valued his right to hunt and often hunted deer, duck, prairie dogs and other varmints and during Thanksgiving week, he would hunt crow in the Fort Cobb area.

In June of 2007 Glenn retired from Fisher Products where he had worked as a machinist.

During his retirement Glenn kept busy with his many hobbies of hunting, camping, tinkering with cars and watching OU football.

This loving husband, father and grandfather will be missed by all who knew him.  Glenn is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeannie; his son Darren DeVore and wife Crecia; grandchildren Destrei Rohr and husband Chase, Zachary, Darrek and Daniel DeVore; nieces Gina and Tracie and nephew Johnny.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, son Gary DeVore, and two sisters, Regina and Sue.
