William Joe “Bill” Whittington

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of William Joe “Bill” Whittington will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time.

Bill passed away from complications with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Disease on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. He was 70.

Born on Aug. 2, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. to William H. and Gladys Jo (Lowry) Whittington, Bill was raised on the family farm in Claremore by his maternal grandmother Josephine E. Milner Lowry. He was a child member of the Claremore Round-up Club. In his teens and young adult years he was very active in Future Farmers of America (FFA), serving as Vice President of the Claremore Chapter of FFA from 1960 to 1961.

After graduating from Claremore High School in 1961, Bill continued on to Oklahoma State University where he graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. After college he proudly served his country for six years in the United States Army Reserves.

Bill then worked for 30 years in Agricultural and Industrial Sales, living and working in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Arizona. Finally he returned to reside in his beautiful home state of Oklahoma. Bill was an avid OSU Cowboys fan and golfer. His motto was “Win or lose, it’s always a great day to be a Cowboy!”

This loving husband, father and grandfather will be missed by all who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife Mynette Dillon Whittington; children Jennifer Vergara, William S. Whittington, Christopher L. Whittington and wife Andrea, Jennifer Fagala, Ryan and Ashley Fagala; grandchildren Dominic Vergara, Katie and Drew Whittington, Tayler, Tatum and Teagan Fagala. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Benjamin and Josephine Milner Lowry, aunts Dorothy Lowry and Beulah Lowry Walker and his former spouse Barbara Louise Whittington.

Pallbearers will be Roy Rollins, Rob Rollins, Ron Rollins, Wayne Allen, Kelsey Wells, Angela Nowlin, Amber Holinsworth, and Maegan Gardner; and honorary pallbearer will be Rev. Joey Bentley. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 1-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

    Mildred Warden was the mother of three and surrogate mother to hundreds.
    She operated one of Claremore’s first daycare for children. She died Friday, July 11, 2014 at the age of 86.

     Services celebrating the life of Johnny Lee Fivecoats will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church, Claremore.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, under the direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1-8pm on Tuesday, July 15, with family receiving visitors from 6-8 p.m.
