Angeline passed away at her home on Saturday, June 29, 2013. She was 94.
Born Oct. 20, 1918 in White Oak, to Willie and Julia (Barnett) Dick, Angeline received her education from Wyandotte Indian School. Following her schooling she married Russell Leeman Stewart and White Oak was the couple’s first home. A move to Stockton, CA for Russell’s work, the family lived there until 1947. Returning to Oklahoma and settling in Claremore, Angeline managed the Twin Oaks hotel for a time. She has lived in Chelsea for the past 20 years.
Angeline’s hobbies included crocheting, quilting and gardening. She loved flowers and her home was decorated inside and out with them. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed every minute with them. Those grandchildren were quite special and she loved for them to be around. The word granny was most precious to her. She loved to can and preserve jelly and her blackberry cobblers were the best and the family was happy to share in the tasty treat. Angeline’s church, Alluwe Baptist, and the church family was very much a part of her life and she attended as long as her health would allow.
A wonderful mother, granny and friend, Angeline will be missed by all that knew her. Those family members that survive include her children Bobbie Smith and her husband Eugene of Big Cabin and Betty Helton of Vinita; her grandchildren Angela Smith and Russell Smith both of Big Cabin; her great-grandchildren Christopher Williams, Michael Smith, Brenda Smith and Zach Smith. Angeline was preceded in death by her parents Willie Dick and Julia Ellick, her husband, daughter Florence Stewart, her grandchildren Davey Helton and Allen Helton, 1 sister and 4 brothers.
