CLAREMORE —

A memorial service for Jeris Leeman Sample will be held at The Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service Monday July 1, 2013 at 2 pm.  Jeris passed away Tuesday June 25, 2013.
He was 64.
Born January 2, 1949 in Farmington, MO, to Willard “Bill” and Louise Berniece (Mullen) Sample, Jeris was raised and educated in his birth community.
After graduation he entered the United States Army and served his country for 3 years.
After receiving his honorable discharge, Jeris returned to Oklahoma and earned his Bachelor Degree from Cameron University.
He married the love of his life, Twyla Grimsley, on September 9, 1972 and their union was gifted with 4 sons.
Demonstrating a strong work ethic, Jeris had a 39 year career with the United States Corp of Engineers as an Inspections Surveyor.
Because of his desire to be involved in his community, Jeris managed the U.S. Corps of Engineers Outreach Program for the Latino community for over 10 years.  Claremore has been his home since 1992.
When Jeris wasn’t busy working, some of his favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting deer, fox and raccoons and wood-working.
His love of wood-working evolved into a hobby of making and collecting clocks.
Jeris restored a great grandfather clock that was over 200 years old.
His collection included an early 1700’s colonial clock, an 1800’s era coo-coo clock and a clock he brought back from Germany while serving in the military.
Jeris always encouraged his sons to spread their wings, and had an open door policy ensuring them that home would always be there.
Known by his sons as everyone’s buddy, Jeris would go out of his way to help them, their families and others.
This loving husband, father, grandfather and friend will be missed by all that knew him.
Those that survive are his sons Eric, Sean and wife Katelyn, and Kevin and wife Rachel Sample; Grandchildren Starlene, Erica, Bryce, Shannon, Connor and Gaylon; Sisters Karen Bunce, Shirley Boggs and LeAnne Moman as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
J eris was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Twyla and son Ryan.
