CLAREMORE — Services for James “Richie” Conger, retired RCB Bank employee, will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at First United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 1-6, with family receiving visitors from 4-6. James passed away April 11, 2013. He was 71.

Born in Miami, Florida on July 24, 1941 to James and Anne (Hodges) Conger, he was raised and educated in his birth community. He was proud of his service in the United States’ Army and after his honorable discharge Richie began a career in carpentry.  Claremore became his home in 1975.  When Richie reached retirement age one of the favorite things to do was drink coffee on his porch while he called his children and teased them because they had to go to work.  Another of his favorite pastimes was riding his Harley and watching NASCAR. He was a part of the Route 66 Cruisers Car Club and a longtime member of the Claremore Elks lodge and the American Legion.

Richie was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, who worked for RCB Bank for 15 years, and taught his children how to make a living and how to appreciate it. His children said of him that the best thing he ever gave to them was nothing because he wanted them to earn what they had.  Richie was proud of the fact that all three of his sons are firefighters.  Richie was a prankster with a great sense of humor who was always laughing and joking with his friends and family. It made his day just to get a rise out of people or to make them laugh. He cherished his grandchildren and encouraged them to keep working so he could continue to draw his social security.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Richie is survived by wife Nelda of Claremore; his children, Gary Conger and wife Rhonda of Claremore, Glenn Conger and wife Cathy of Claremore, Jason Conger and wife Michele of Miramar, FL, Denise Cloutier and husband Jeff of Gainesville, Fla., Chris Burdan of Claremore, Stacy Pollock of Florida, Brent Dake and wife Susan of Claremore, Sheila Harris and husband Andre of Tulsa, Lisa Marrs and husband Allen of Claremore; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and numerous friends in the community. Richie was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anne Conger, brother Chris, and wife Francis.
