Wanda Bell Reed

CLAREMORE — Services for Wanda Bell Reed were today at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.  Burial followed at Washington Cemetery.

Wanda passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was 83.

Born in Avant, Okla. to Robert L. and Lillian L. (Hendricks) Comiford on Sept. 20, 1929 the family then moved to Rogers County where Wanda lived for most of her 83 years.

On Nov. 12, 1947 in Henryetta, Okla., Wanda married Buck Reed and this union was blessed with 2 daughters.

God gifted Wanda with a talent for music and servitude to others.  From a very young age Wanda and her sisters could be found singing all over the Dog Creek Hills.

After their marriage she and Buck would have jam sessions in their home until participation necessitated the renting of the Women’s Building at the old fair grounds in Claremore. When not playing her music Wanda would put her culinary skills to use and make any sick friend or relative something special to make them feel better.  With her light, quick step and big hug for everyone, Wanda would also spend some of her free time at the local nursing homes.

Family was everything to Wanda whether it was the annual hunting and fishing trips with Buck to Colorado for 26 years, those huge Sunday afternoon meals she prepared or family reunions; Wanda’s passion was her family.  Another huge event in Wanda’s life was the Hendricks/Tanner family reunions. Attendance by all family members was mandatory. She began by giving plenty of notice but then would follow up with a phone call to each member of the family.  You knew it was your birthday when your phone began to ring very early because she always wanted to be first to sing you the Happy Birthday song.

Referred to as the epitome of sweetness, this wife, mother and grandmother will be missed by all whose lives she touched.  Wanda is survived by her daughters Kathy Cottrell and husband Tim, Debbie Faull of Claremore; grandchildren Tony Shrum and wife Ladonna, Chris Headrick and husband Jeff, Julie Shoemaker and husband Brent, Kim Moore and husband Tim, Robby Faull and wife Wanda; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years Buck, 3 sisters, Lorene, Bobbie and Verna and brother Leroy.
