Larry D. Lewis

CLAREMORE —  A celebration of the life of Larry D. Lewis was Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.

Larry passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013. He was 61 years old.

Born on July 20, 1952 in Tulsa, Okla. to Walter and Wilma (Croff) Lewis, Larry was raised and educated in the Sequoyah area. He attended various trade schools on his way to becoming a machinist at BS&B Safety Systems where he worked in Tulsa.

On April 28, 1983 Larry married Teddy Goodman at the home of brother Losey & wife Mildred and their union was blessed with five children. Family was always important to Larry and he savored his role as father and grandfather. He loved to spoil his grandchildren by “sugaring them up and sending them home.”

Christmas was a favorite holiday and Larry loved to make it special for his whole family. He would always have out the “lava candle,” a collection of 2,500 melted votive candles he started years ago on small dish that grew to cover a small tabletop. The grandchildren thought it looked like an ice cream cone and Larry marveled at their delight when they tried to lick it.

A lover of nature and the outdoors, Larry enjoyed camping and fishing at Grand Lake, especially Little Blue where many times he used a homemade quilt as his bed to lay out under the twinkling stars. Larry liked to carve walking sticks and had a collection of them that he had crafted. He was a skilled fixer-upper and worked on various projects with his son-in-law. Larry also possessed a green thumb and had a talent for growing a variety of plants. He took pleasure in antique shopping and seeking that perfect treasure.

This loving husband, father and grandfather will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Larry is survived by his wife of 30 years, Teddy; children Denise Seely and husband Michael, Charlotte Foster and husband Lee, Robert Harper and wife Lisa, Timothy Harper and wife Martha and Lindsey Lewis; eighteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers David Lewis and wife Kathy and Mike Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Caroline Self.
