CLAREMORE —

A celebration of the life of Michael Wayne Key will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.  Michael passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013.  He was 59 years old.
Born in Claremore on March 25, 1954 to Vera Mae Key, Michael was raised and educated in Inola, graduating from Inola High School.  He lived in Inola and Claremore and always called Rogers County his home.  Michael met and married Judy Ann Powell and their union was blessed with one son, Tony.
Michael worked as a plant manager and powder coating specialist in the manufacturing industry for many years.  He had many interests including fishing, golfing and car racing.  He traveled with an Outlaw 410 Sprint Car team and served as their mechanic and part of the pit crew.  He loved to laugh and spend time with his family. The Key family had huge family reunions that Michael loved being a part of and the family always looked to him for the fireworks show.  His favorite holiday was the 4th of July and this year was a blast when he accidentally set off a bag of fireworks.
An avid gardener who loved to raise vegetables in his garden, Michael enjoyed sharing the bounty of his hard work with his friends and family.  Another of Michael’s joys in life was being a father.  He was always there for his son Tony.  He coached Tony’s little league team and taught him how to play golf.  A wonderful father who some referred to as “just a big kid,” Michael had a great zest for life.
This loving father and grandfather will be missed by all whose lives he touched.  Michael is survived by his children Tony of Claremore, Christie Cooper and husband Billy, Larissa Efird and husband Joey; grandchildren Chloe, Cameron, Alexander, Callista, Abbie and Joey; uncle Charles Key and wife Betty, aunt Betty Colbeck and cousin Debbie Liebig. Michael is preceded in death by his parents and uncle J.R. Key.
