Dr. Charles E. Caron

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dr. Charles E. Caron, at 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. His pastor, Rev. Paul Eichhoff, will officiate. A prayer service will be held at the church at 7 on Thursday evening before the funeral mass. He will be laid to rest in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Bell Hollow, N.Y. on Tuesday morning, Jan. 22. Friends may visit at Rice Funeral Service until 6 this evening. Those who wish may honor his memory by contributing to either the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or the American Heart Association, ATTN: Affiliate Research Services, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231-4596. Charles passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 55.

Born Oct. 22, 1952 in Woonsocket, R.I., he was the son of Edgar and Celia (Bourque) Caron. He grew up and received his early education in Putnam, Conn. During his high school years at Putnam High he played football and basketball. He was a part of the graduating class of 1970. From there he attended a five-year master’s program at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. While there he was a part of the ski team. However, after three years at the University, his father’s ill health required that he return home. But Charlie would not be deterred from his goal to practice medicine. So while not able to speak the language at the time he attended medical school in first France and then Italy where he studied at the University of Bologna, the oldest medical school in the world. Charlie’s intellect and determination brought him success as he completed his overseas studies, passing oral boards given in a foreign tongue, spurring his interest and desire to become fluent in four languages.
