Ruth Margaret McKerrow

Ruth Margaret McKerrow, 92, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Ruth was born on June 25, 1915, in Dawn, Mo., the fourth daughter of Elmer E. and Mary Annie Perry, and was a lifelong resident of Livingston Co., Mo. On Sept. 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Gail McKerrow in Mayfield, Ky., and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1997.

Ruth was a graduate of Dawn High School, Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University), and Chillicothe Business College. Besides farming in the Dawn community, she and her husband owned several motels, including the Best Western of Chillicothe. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and secretary of her Philathea Sunday School Class. She was a true role model for those who wished to live with love in their hearts, and she received love in return from those whose lives she touched.

In addition to her husband, Gail, Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Esther Steele and Ethel Perry, and her daughter-in-law, Carol McKerrow.

Ruth is lovely remembered by her son, Joe McKerrow of Claremore; her daughters, Margaret Dyer and husband Bob of Eureka, Nev.., and Jane Dunn and husband Brian of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; her sister, Grace VanEaton, of Chillicothe, Mo.; her grandchildren, Andy McKerrow of Claremore, Rob Dyer of Lafayette, Calif., Renee, Tiffany and Todd Dyer of Reno, Nev., Megan Dunn of Kansas City, Mo. and Nick Dunn of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and great-granddaughter, Alex McKerrow, of Oologah. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Dena Harl, George Harl, and Matt Harl, all of Claremore, eight step-great grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren, and by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends who shared in her abundant love. Her arms could spread very wide to embrace her family, a group that went well beyond those directly related to her.
