Preston “Stanley” Dutton, Jr.

CLAREMORE — Services celebrating the life of Preston “Stanley” Dutton, Jr. will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Owalla Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-7 at the funeral home with family receiving visitors from 5-7. Stanley passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was 60.

Born in Tulsa, Okla. on Feb. 19, 1954 to Preston and Ida (Strickland) Dutton, Sr., Stanley was raised and educated in Pryor and Salina and called that area of Mayes County home until moving to Claremore in 1997.

In 1972 Stanley enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country for three years. Stanley worked as a truck driver for a portion of his career before becoming a shift leader at ParFab Industries.

On July 23, 1993, in a Pryor ceremony, Stanley married the apple of his eye, Cindy Hurley and their union was blessed with four children.

Growing up in a rural setting on a farm, Stanley was taught the value of hard work and just how much family matters, a legacy that he instilled in the lives of his children.

Upon the death of his mother, Stanley stepped up and filled that role as head of the family.

He made each birthday or holiday, especially 4th of July, special with a bounty of food just as his mother had. With the help of his son, he even made a smoker out of an old propane tank and excelled at smoking a variety of meats.

According to Stanley’s brother, growing up was sometimes difficult as they had to transport water by horseback up a hill to their home or were bathed in a wash tub outside even in the dead of winter.

That being said, they still always found time to laugh and, of course, get into a little mischief as brothers do; they at times helped themselves to some fruits and vegetables in the neighbors’ gardens while living on a dairy farm in Sacramento, Calif.

Described by his son as the greatest man that ever lived, this loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Stanley is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cindy Dutton; children James Dutton, Justin Dutton and wife Amanda, Travis Dutton and Tiffany Dutton; grandchildren Reanna, Arion, Olivia, Brylie, Konner and Kayella; one great grandchild on the way; brother David Dutton and wife Fay Nell; numerous nieces and nephews; and Magan Collins who saw Stanley as a father figure.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dianne.
