Mike Griffin

CLAREMORE —  Funeral service for Mike Griffin will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Westside Holiness Church.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Visitation will be held at Westside Holiness Church on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 1-8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5 till 8.

Mike went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the age of 65.

The son of John and Mildred Friar Griffin was born Dec. 4, 1948 in Sapulpa, Okla. He was born at home with longtime family friend Louise Whitehouse serving as the midwife.   Raised in Sapulpa, and attended Sapulpa High School, graduating in 1967.  After graduation he began working with his father at Byron Jackson.  However a short time later he was called to serve in the United States Army.  On July 5, 1968 while he was home on leave he married Sheila Haddox in Claremore, Oklahoma.  Upon his discharge Mike returned home, and he and Sheila settled in Sapulpa.  They were there only a few months before deciding to move to Claremore. Over the next few years he worked for Denny Haddox, and GEA Rainey before starting a career with Tek-Fin.

Mike was a great family man.  He was proud to be known as ‘Uncle Monkey’ to his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.   When people were in need Mike was always one of the first to come and help.  Church was also important to Mike.  October 31, 1988 Mike was saved and became a member of Westside Holiness Church.  This made him feel like a new man.  When the new Westside Holiness Church was being built, Mike was there almost every day to help.  His service to the church didn’t end there.   He was the guy to call when any little thing needed fixed or changed.

In his spare time Mike enjoyed collecting hot wheels, coins and of course monkeys.  He also loved to keep his yard looking good, he enjoyed mowing so much that he often mowed several of his friends and families yards.  There was also the yearly fishing trip to Canada that he always looked forward to. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mildred Griffin; brothers, Paul, Peewee and Gary Griffin and close family friend Louise Whitehouse.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of the home; son, Travis Griffin and wife Amanda of Choteau; daughter, Marenda Boles of Canton, Missouri; brother, Charles Griffin and wife Jennifer of Inola; sister, Karen Joy Jett and husband Glenn of Sapulpa; grandchildren, Dalton Lane Griffin, Weston Broox Griffin, Brynn Faith Griffin, Bretton Michael Boles, and Ashton Boles, and great-grandchildren, Quenton Jones, Sydnie Jones and Justace Marshall.
