Leon Koster

CLAREMORE — A memorial service for Leon Koster will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tues., July 30 from 12-5 p.m.

Leon passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013. He was 77.

Born Aug. 5 1935 in Worland, Mo. to Joseph Frank and Inez Minnie (Jenkins) Koster, Leon was reared and educated in several communities before his family moved to Rogers County and Leon graduated from Sequoyah high school. Later, Leon began working for ONG in Claremore as a meter reader and then with the ONG offices in Tulsa. Being quite the entrepreneur, Leon began building houses in Claremore.

In 1980, Leon married Glenda Kay Hart-Hawkins and they made their home in Claremore. In 1985 they moved to Salina and started a trucking business. Leon enjoyed going to the local coffee shop every morning to visit with his friends. They would solve the day’s problems and catch up on the local news. Leon loved people; he never met a stranger and could engage in conversation with just about anyone.  His life was fulfilled when he was around his grandchildren.

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, Leon will be missed by all who knew him. Those family members that survive include his wife Kay of their home; his children Steve Koster of Claremore, Kent Koster and wife Tammy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mitch Koster also of Claremore and Garret Hawkins of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren Michael Koster, Kara Koster, Casey Koster, Ryan Koster, Seth Hawkins, Sam Hawkins, Ginny Hawkins and Gerry Hawkins; his sister Jean Jones of Calif.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Fern Whorton, Joe Wayne Koster and Lyle Koster.
