Dorothy Dorsey

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Dorothy Dorsey was 2 p.m., today at her church, Verdigris Assembly of God.

Dorothy passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013.  She was 86.

Born in Oologah on May 28, 1927 to William F. “Bill” and Waunita (Harrington) Roberts, Dorothy grew up in the rural community of Prairie Grove where she received her elementary education and then on to Oologah High School and graduated as salutatorian of the class of 1945.

On Dec. 15, 1945 Dorothy married Buford Thomas Dorsey in a ceremony performed by Rev. C.O. Haymaker, pastor of the First Assembly of God in Claremore.

The couple moved to Verdigris and started their lives together.  This union was blessed with two wonderful sons, Darrell Duane and Glenn Thomas.

Dorothy was a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God and went on to become a great pastor’s wife.  She served alongside her husband, Buford, in all the churches they pastored and also cared for her family by sewing for the boys and herself and by providing for special families that had needs.  Dorothy also served the Arkansas District Assemblies of God, as Sectional W.M. president for over 10 years.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her.

Those family members that survive include her husband Buford Thomas Dorsey of almost 68 years of their home in Verdigris; her sons Darrell Dorsey and wife Myrna also of Verdigris and Rev. Glenn Dorsey and wife Gladys of Beebe, Ark.; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren and 5 step great-great grandchildren; 3 brothers James Roberts of Broken Arrow, Tommy Roberts and Gary Lee Roberts both of Claremore and sister Ellen Dorsey of Verdigris and a host of nieces and nephews.
