Robert passed away on Friday, August 21st, 2009, at St. John’s Medical Center. He was 41.
Born June 17, 1968, in Tulsa, Robert was the son of Thomas Ellis and Marilyn Sue (Driskill) Burchfield. Though he grew up in Tulsa, the family lived near the Catoosa community, so Robert enjoyed attending school and spending much time in that small-town setting. After graduating from Catoosa High School with the class of 1986, he attended Rogers State University studying criminal justice with an emphasis on law enforcement. He also worked at Locke Supply for a number of years while he served as a reserve police officer for the Catoosa Department before he became a full-time officer there. He was outstanding in the workplace, fair to everyone and helpful beyond the call of duty; many of Robert’s off duty days were spent at the school where he mentored and encouraged the students. He was awarded Officer of the Year in 1993 while still a reservist and again as an active police officer in 2006. Some on the police force now and those who desire to become a part of police work have and are continuing to pursue that career due to Robert’s exemplary work efforts.
Robert and Terri Boyles met in the early ‘90s. They married April 20, 1996 in a Miami, Okla. ceremony. Three children have blessed this family. When away from work, Robert was all about family, something that he had learned from his childhood. His heart for people seemed to spill over into every area of his life. His family knew they were his priority, his co-workers seemed to know the same, and even perfect strangers considered their position with Robert a priority if they had a need. If he had an expertise to fix an air conditioner, or simply share a meal, he would help with anything.
This devoted family man, proud police officer and friend to many leaves far too soon those who loved him best. He is survived by his wife, Terri Burchfield, of their home in Claremore; his children, Lindsey Burchfield, Robert Burchfield, II and Kyle Skaggs, all of the home in Claremore; his mother, Marilyn Burchfield of Tulsa; siblings, twin sister Margaret Coe and husband, Steve, of Catoosa, brother Tom Burchfield, II, and wife, Lynette, of Broken Arrow; five nieces, Brittanie, Shelby, Bailey, Lexi, and Morgan; six nephews, Caleb, Joshua, Randy, Michael, Bryce and Brody. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Burchfield.
