CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Lorraine Gibson will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Olympus North Cemetery in Grove. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Lorraine passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014. She was 89.

Born on Aug. 16, 1924 in Cyclone, W. Va. to Grove and Lake (Short) Cook, Lorraine was raised and educated in her birth community. Lorraine and Vester Gibson were married in Cyclone on June 21, 1941 and their union was blessed with 3 children. Family always a priority, Lorraine made taking care of her husband and children her purpose in life.

A simple woman who grew up during the era of the Great Depression, Lorraine often re-purposed discarded items and made use of what she had.

She was not one to care if all her china or silverware matched but only cared that everyone received a plate at dinner time.

Lorraine loved her children and grandchildren, even moving to Claremore in 2011 to be near to her family. Spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do but she also enjoyed a variety of other interests. Fishing was a life-long passion for Lorraine.

She taught her husband to fish and she and her “favorite son-in-law, Ron” also enjoyed many fishing trips together, often visiting Lake Eucha or Kaw Lake for weeks or months at a time.

A few of Lorraine’s other hobbies included bowling.  She was an avid bowler with a league and proudly displayed her 200 pin.

Lorraine was also an artistic person who enjoyed arts and crafts as well as painting. She excelled at painting landscapes and still life of fruit.

A quilter as well, Lorraine created many quilted masterpieces that her family will cherish for years to come.

This loving wife, mother and grandmother will be missed by all who knew her. Lorraine is survived by her husband Vester of the home; her children Edwin Gibson and wife Karen, Sandy Latimer and husband Ron, Jerry Gibson and wife Jayne; grandchildren David, Jennifer, Sandi Lynn Owen, Kimberly Bryant and husband James, Cary Gibson, Kyla Searcy and husband Mark, Elizabeth Kluceusek and husband Frank, and Adam Gibson; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother Frank Cook and wife Lois, sister Francis Chambers and husband Chris. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents and sister Roma Cook.
