CLAREMORE — A memorial service celebrating the life of Joan Louise Daniel will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.

Joan passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. She was 79.

Born June 17, 1934 in Cushing, Okla., to Forrest and LeMoyne (Mincks) Hetherington; Joan was reared and educated in Ripley. Following her graduation from Ripley High School, Joan worked as a cashier for a local bakery. On Feb. 7, 1954, she married Jack Daniel and 5 children blessed this union. Home was several different communities and Joan had made Muskogee her home recently.

A fun loving, caring lady, Joan was very out-going and bubbly. She was most happy with her family around her. A wonderful cook, Joan was famous for her biscuits and gravy and her homemade pizzas. Her children took turns bringing friends home at lunch time to share in a slice. Joan could sew just about anything, making most of the girls’ formal dresses for school and later maternity clothes. She was raised by her grandparents on the farm and knew what a hard day’s work was. Her yard was always lovely with its beautiful lawn and meticulously kept flower beds. She took inspiration from the many trips to the scenic gardens while on vacation. Joan loved to travel and didn’t pass on an opportunity to spend time searching for a garden to visit even though the kids and grandkids wanted to see other sites.

Joan spent some of her spare time playing games; cards, board games or games on the computer, she enjoyed them all. She usually always won, even if she had to change the rules to fix the outcome. Joan was a people person and loved being with her friends. If she had a thought and needed to tell you something it was never sugar coated, you always knew where you stood with Joan.

A wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend; Joan will be missed by those lives she touched. Her family members that survive included her children Debra Kester of Claremore, Johnnie Daniel of Tahlequah, Joni Daniel and husband Gordon Pecor of Muskogee and Lori White and husband Scott of Chelsea; her grandchildren Natasha Daniel, Brittany Daniel, Josh Daniel, Jordon White, Logan White, Payton White and Regan White; her sister Barbara Manaraze and husband Bob of Dover, Delaware and her brother David Hetherington and wife Debby of Ozark, MO and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her son Milton Daniel and her sisters Lemoyne Roe and Colleen Kelley.
