Dana Jo Adkisson

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Dana Jo Adkisson will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at the Chapel of the Gardens at Rice Funeral Service.  Burial will follow in Lone Elm Cemetery.  Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 12-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dana passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31. She was 62.

Born in Pampa, Texas on Oct. 1, 1950 to William and Aldera (Moeller) Adkisson, Dana was reared and educated in the Duncan area. After graduating from Duncan High School, she attended college at Cameron University to study music. Dana loved to study God’s Word and enjoyed her daily devotion time.

A lover of music, Dana taught voice, piano and organ lessons in Pryor. She used her God given gift on the piano to play in church to uplift the entire congregation at any church she attended.  Dana also shared her love of music with her family. She loved to sing with her children and grandchildren and said all of them had a gift from God. Sparkling eyes and a contagious laughter were her trademarks.  Dana, a storyteller, loved to chat on the phone and reminisce. She was always smiling and a blessing to be around.

A few of Dana’s hobbies included writing in her journal and collecting Victorian home décor and jewelry. Dana’s biggest love was her family. She cherished her role as grandmother and was “Nana” to her grandchildren and “Nana Dana” to her extended family.

This loving mother and grandmother will be missed by all who knew her. Dana is survived by her children Charme Heirs and husband James, Mackenzie Hankins and husband Mike Lonon; grandchildren Hayden, Alec, Ella, and Cora Hankins, Eden Wylie, Colin, Turner, Trey, Alexis, Gabriel and Liam Hugh Hiers and baby Charme Danielle; brother, Larry Adkisson and wife LaRue; sisters, Darla Scroggins and husband Kent, Charme Cone and husband Mark. Dana is preceded in death by her parents and son Jeremy Hankins.
