Sharon Dee Henry

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Sharon Dee Henry will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the Verdigris High School Gym. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 1-7, with family receiving visitors from 5-7 p.m.

Sharon left her temporary earthly home for her eternal heavenly home on Tuesday, September 11. She was 63.

One of six children, Sharon was born November 4, 1949 in Talihina, Okla. to Everett and Rachel Green Dukes. Raised and educated in her birth community, graduating from Whitesboro High School. She went on to attend some college classes and receive her certification as a CPR Instructor.

On May 25, 1968 Sharon married Mike Henry and their union was gifted with two sons, Jeff and Ryan. This family that God gave her became one of the most important priorities in Sharon’s life. She was her sons’ greatest supporter whether it was acting as den mother for Cub Scouts or just being in the stands for one of their many extra school activities. She cherished this role and realized what a gift God gave her in her boys.

Sharon was referred to by her family as vivacious and having “frantic energy.”  She was always active and on the move. Her career with Verdigris Public Schools lasted for over 33 years. She began as a crossing guard and ended up as the secretary to Jim Anderson the Elementary School Principle. Sharon was very involved in all activities with the school and enjoyed the yearly trek to OKC to the state Play offs with the fighting Cardinals Basketball team. It is believed this love of basketball originated from her high school days where she was always very athletic and even had the letterman’s jacket to prove it. Sharon continued that athletic drive in later years as well. As an active member of the Tulsa Bicycle Club, Sharon held the positions of President and Secretary. Her involvement with the Bicycle Club enabled her to achieve her yearly goal of riding for over three thousand miles a year.

Very family oriented, Sharon always treasured time with family. Considered a little bossy by her sister, Sharon was an excellent cook and Thanksgiving in her sister’s home was a family tradition. The day always consisted of the men hunting and the sisters spending hours in the kitchen to prepare for the day’s feast. Sharon also was gifted with the ability to sew, knit, quilt and crochet. Many were fortunate to receive something that she had created.

Sharon leaves a legacy of Hope to her family; a hope that can only come from her deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Harvest Baptist Church for over 25 years. During that time she participated in home Bible studies, taught Sunday school, worked in VBS and sang in the choir. Sharon’s study of God’s Word was instrumental in bringing her great comfort and enabled her to heroically fight her battle with cancer.

This loving wife, mother, sister and friend will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Sharon is survived by Mike her husband of 45 years: sons Jeff and Ryan Henry; sisters Patsy Dukes and husband Artis Potts, Sandra Lucier Herve`; uncle Allen Dukes; aunts Catherine Harris and husband Lee, Mozelle Henry and husband Patrick; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
