James ‘Jim’ Evans

CLAREMORE — Services honoring the life of Jim Evans will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Blue Starr Church of Christ.

Burial will follow at Wards Grove Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-7 with family receiving visitors from 5-7 at the funeral home.

Jim left his temporary earthly home for his eternal heavenly home on Saturday, March 15, 2014. He was 74.

Born in Seminole, Okla. on Dec. 12, 1939 to James and Hazel (Learned) Evans, Jim was reared and educated in Dustin, OK and graduated from Graham High School—the school system his father was the superintendent of.

After graduation he continued his education attending Oklahoma Christian College then going on to Harding University in Searcy, AR where he received his bachelors of science in education. Jim then began a rewarding career of 38 years as a teacher, coach and administrator, working in several different school districts before retiring from Oologah Public Schools.

On Nov. 25, 1966 Jim married Sheila Naro in the Blue Starr Church of Christ. Their marriage was gifted with two children Michelle and Chris.

With God’s help Jim seemed to excel at his role of husband and father and was described by his wife as being “an anchor” a man with a good heart that loved the Lord and his family. As a father Jim was involved and supportive of all his children’s activities—coaching little league and also their soccer team.

When the grandchildren came along his supportive nature carried right over to them and PaPa became one of his favorite words to hear. This love for his grandchildren went both ways and when Rylan’s father passed away it was Jim that was asked to accompany her to the father-daughter banquet at her school.

Jim also had a great passion for his church and church family he faithfully served in the Blue Starr Church of Christ for over 47 years. Having a deep appreciation and understanding of the Truth of God’s Word—it was only natural that he held the position of Education Minister. He also taught classes and held the position of Elder.

Always humble Jim would tell you with great pride it was his father whom he had great respect for that instilled God’s Word in his heart. Jim also developed many lifelong friendships within his church family, one being with the man that called him “Slick” and gave him the inspiration to live each day to the fullest.

Being dedicated to his family and career, Jim still found time to fish and could be spotted at many of the rural farm ponds with his fishing buddies.

The area lakes were also a favorite fishing destination and whenever the boat was involved there was always a humorous story to be told — the boat seat that broke or perhaps Jim changing the steering only to go in the opposite direction he wanted to. Jim took all this in stride according to his family as he loved to tease, clown around, and show that great sense of humor that he had.

This loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Jim is survived by his wife Sheila of the home, children Michelle Adibi and husband Ali, Chris Evans and wife Wendy, grandchildren; Rylan and Rustyn McElroy, Soraya and Khatie Adibi, and Alexis, Zach, and Landon Evans, his sisters; Patti Fletcher and husband John and Frances Farley; brother Alan Evans and wife Carolyn and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill and sister Mary.

In Lieu of Flowers or other condolences the family suggests a donation in Jim’s name be made to Hope Harbor.
