Delphia G. Casey

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Delphia G. Casey was 10  a.m. today, April 25, 2014 at Washington Baptist Church. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

Delphia left her temporary earthly home for her eternal heavenly home on April 22, 2014. She was 82.

Born in the Choski Bottoms in Muskogee County, Delphia was one of ten children gifted to Clifford and Daisy (Townsley) Fryman. She was raised and educated in the Rogers County area, the county that remained home for her and her family.  On July 8, 1948 and at the young age of 16, Delphia married Hubert Casey in Claremore and their union was blessed with four children.

In 1954 the young family purchased a farm that was referred to as “the old Prather farm.”  Together Delphia and her husband started what continued as one of their greatest enjoyments on what is now called “the Casey place.”  A true example of a helpmate, Delphia worked side by side with her husband on the farm taking care of animals, haying, gardening and growing produce. They grew enough watermelon, tomatoes, corn and peanuts to sustain the family and also had extra to sale, which Delphia advertised with her very creative signs.  What was not eaten or sold Delphia canned for future use.

An intelligent and creative person, Delphia was a published poet. She enjoyed writing about her home life and some of her poems appeared in the Baptist Messenger. A true Proverbs 31 woman, Delphia rose early to take care of her husband, children and all the responsibilities in her home. She loved to teach Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, teaching people of all age groups the Word of God which she so strongly lived by and was an example to others.

Delphia was a talented quilter and seamstress. Her children could pick out clothing from the Sear’s catalog and Delphia would lay out newspaper and cut a homemade pattern.  A great support to her family, Delphia never criticized and always attended her children’s sporting events as their #1 fan. Being a self-taught woman did not stop her though from beating her children at Scrabble.  Delphia made sure her children had a good work ethic and taught them everything she could. She taught them each how to cook and Saturday morning breakfasts were prepared by the children.

This loving mother and grandmother will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Delphia is survived by her children Linda Jobe and husband David, Daniel Casey and wife Lana and Debbie Hogan and husband Brian; grandchildren Angelia Jobe, Vicki Leach and husband Mike, Cindy Thornburg and husband Danny, Damon Jobe, Glenna Davis, Rick Casey, Sara Conway and Jarad Hogan; nine great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers Larry Fryman and wife Donna, Lee Fryman and wife Peggy; sister Faye Harrington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delphia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hubert Casey, her parents, son Glen Casey, brothers Charlie and Bill Joe, sisters Lois Hatmaker, Ruth Smith, Ruby Townley and Dorles Bash.
