Helen Louise Clark

CLAREMORE — Services for Helen Louise Clark will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, in The Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. She will be laid to rest beside her mother, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday until 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening.

Louise passed away early Monday morning with her family by her side. She was 72.

Born Jan. 16, 1941, in Miami, Okla., Louise was the daughter of Elbert Huston and Opal Margurite (Johnson) Jones. With the Jones family’s move to Claremore when Louise was still quite young, she grew up and received her education in this community. She was a part of the Claremore High School graduating class of 1959.

Following the completion of her education, Louise married and became the proud mom to her three daughters. She supported those treasured girls with her career in the business office at Claremore Regional Hospital. After 35 years of dedicated work with the hospital, Louise retired three years ago. She formed many close relationships through those work years and was respected by her co-workers.

When Louise wasn’t working, she took great pleasure in sharing her gift as a cook with her beloved family. She could fry chicken like none other — documentation of this comes straight from her sons-in-law.

Her grandson, Ray loved spending the night at Meme’s house because he knew he would be awakened by the aroma of biscuits and gravy. And of course Louise could prepare this breakfast dish just as well as her fried chicken.

Because of the joy she got from preparing meals and welcoming guests to her table, Louise’ home was the family gathering place almost every weekend. And this hospitality continued until her health made it impossible for her to continue. In the more recent months, her girls have enjoyed returning the favor for their mom.

Louise had passed on her cooking skills and now she would be the recipient of those lessons. She also had bragging rights when her daughters prepared special events for friends and workers at the hospital.

Family was such a treasure to Louise. She not only loved her daughters and sons-in-law; but, she also adored her grand and great grandchildren. What a joy it was for her to love on those little ones. And no one was able to sooth a crying baby like Meme.

When twins, Hailey and Gavin came along, everyone entrusted with their care loved it when Louise was available to add her special kind of loving and nurturing touch.

When she just had time to play, Louise liked shopping from the QVC network. Her family teased her about having the number on speed dial so she wouldn’t miss a single bargain. Taking care of her home and her yard were favorite hobbies for Louise.  But, again, when she was no longer able to keep things just right, her girls “hobby” became taking care of the house.

Occasionally Mom had to point out that they may have missed a spot. The guys in the family also developed a new “hobby” — that of making sure the yard was well maintained.

This devoted and loving mom, meme and friend will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Tanya Heinrich and husband Mike of Skiatook, Michelle Rogers and husband Sid of Owasso and Kim Ferrell and husband Lanny of Sulphur Springs, Texas; eight grandchildren, Billy, Megan, Ray, Katie, Taylor, Austin, Ryan and Jonah and five great grandchildren, Elijah, Landon, Gavin, Hailey and Alysah.

She is also survived by two of her five siblings, brother, Gerald Jones of Tulsa and sister, Marjorie Sumter and husband Troy of Hudson Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Huston and Opal Jones, two brothers, Gene and Kenny and a sister, Margurite.
