William J. 'Bill' Lantow

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of William J. “Bill” Lantow will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Cedar Point Church. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.  Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2013 from 12-7 at the funeral home, with family receiving visitors from 5-7.  Bill passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013. He was 84.

Born on Feb. 19, 1929 in Muskogee, Okla. to Harry Dale and Ollie M. Lantow, Bill graduated from Claremore High School before entering into the United States Marine Corp in October of 1950.  He was in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal and a Purple Heart.  He was a prisoner of this war and escaped.  There was an article published in the Tulsa paper titled “One Grenade Spells Freedom for Tulsan Seized by Reds” and another in the Marine Corp Magazine, “God and a Grenade.”  He then worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 1975.

Bill and Thelda Rucker were blessed with three children, William Lee, Iva Suzanne and Dana Jo Lantow.  They will all miss their father but know he is in God’s hands now.

All of you that knew Bill know how much he loved his music and sports, with tennis and football being his favorites.  He was proud of his children and grandchildren who continued his passion of these games.

He is survived by his brother Larry Lantow and wife Ola Mae of Tulsa, sister Donna Fettig and husband Lee of Omaha; son William Lee Lantow and wife Bernadine and their children River and Kendall of Claremore, John Lantow of Tulsa, Shana Lantow Thompson and husband Michael of Texas; daughter Suzanne Voss and husband Larry of Talala and their children Daniel Voss and wife Chenoah, Rebekah Voss; daughter Dana and husband Gary and their children Zech and Kristin; great grandchildren Samantha, Tesla, Cedric, Journey, Brandon, Katelyn, JT, and Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his sister Betty Lantow Nickerson and his brothers Robert and Norman Lantow – both were killed while serving in World War II.  The Claremore High School football stadium was named in their honor while his older brother, Larry was returned home after their deaths.  Bill was proud of the Lantow name.
