Laverta passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. She was 81 years old.
Born April 1, 1931 in Vinita, Okla. to Elmer Hamiliton and Ruby (Bailey) Hamiliton, Laverta was reared and educated in Claremore and she graduated from Claremore High School. She later attended Tulsa University and Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, Calif.
Following her schooling, Laverta married Donald Denton Harris in Bartlesville, OK and their union was gifted with one daughter. Donald worked as a Draftsman and work took them to Pampa, Texas where they raised their daughter. Laverta also contributed to the family’s resources working as a cosmetologist, office manager for American Airlines, and then retiring as a loan processor in the banking industry. Donald’s work as a Sales Manager moved them to Verdigris, which remained their home after 1978.
Laverta enjoyed her family and a variety of other interests including oil painting and interior decorating. She was also an accomplished seamstress and would design and make most of her daughter’s clothes.
In later life and after the death of her first husband God provided Laverta with someone to share her golden years with and on January 18, 2008 she married William (W.M.) Moon and they made their new home in Owasso. Together they enjoyed Swing Dancing and so it seemed only fitting that they honeymooned at Western Hills Lodge and attended a Bluegrass Festival in Sequoyah State Park.
This vibrant, outgoing, wife, mother, and friend will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband William (W.M.) Moon of Owasso, her daughter Linda Sampley and husband David of Owasso, her sister Ardilene Baker, long-time friend Debbie Griggs and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 54 years, Donald Harris and her brother Jack Hamilton.
