CLAREMORE — Blanche June Hendrickson Craigie, 87, of Claremore, Okla. passed away on March 2, 2013 at the Brookfield Assisted Living Center where she had resided for the past six years.

Born in Siloam Springs, Ark. on July 19, 1925, June was the daughter of the late John Spencer and Mildred Virginia Hendrickson. She graduated from Mission High School in Mission, Texas. While a high school student, June was a cheerleader for the football team, including star quarterback Tom Landry. They both went on to be recognized as leaders and innovators. She married the late William James Craigie on April 24, 1943, and they raised their family in Manilus, N.Y.

She then spent several years as the office manager for Goode & Webster Insurance in Manlius, N.Y. While staying fully employed, June found time to be creative in the kitchen, often saying she would be happy if she didn’t have to cook the same recipe twice in her lifetime.

She kept the table full of wonderful and sometimes very interesting meals. June was an active member of the Episcopal Church, the Order of the Daughters of the King, and numerous craft groups.

She was an accomplished quilter, knitter, potter and master gardener as well as being a loving and devoted wife and mother. June and her husband spent several years in Honduras as missionaries, where Bill expanded Episcopal schools, while June worked with women and children to improve their daily lives.

When they retired from missionary work, they moved to Freeport, Texas where the Episcopal Church they helped establish and staff a preschool reading program at a local medical clinic. Her example was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by sons, Michael James and wife, Carol of Parker, Colo.; Laurence John and wife, Dana of Claremore; Kevin Joel and wife, Pamela of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and daughter, Joanne Ridky of Clarksville, Md.
