Alice “Kay” Hammer

A celebration of the life of Alice “Kay” Hammer will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.  Burial will be Tuesday at 1p.m. at Tannehill Cemetery, Tannehill, Okla.
Kay passed away on Sept. 17, 2013. She was 74.
Born on Oct. 2, 1938 in Yale, Okla., Kay was one of twelve children gifted to James and Mary (Padgett) Farley.  She was raised in Van Buren, Arkansas and graduated from Van Buren High School and then went on to attend The College of the Ozarks.
While living in California, Kay met and married her husband Frank Hammer on March 6, 1964 in Los Angeles at the Christian Church.   Together, Kay and Frank were blessed with three children.   During her time in California, Kay achieved one of her greatest accomplishments, a career in opera and theater.  She also sang and traveled with the Summer Stock Traveling Musical Group.  Her lifelong love of music was evident and one of her favorite musicians was James Taylor.
In 1971 the family moved back to Oklahoma to live in Tulsa, later making Claremore their home in 1973.  Kay began a 22 year career at the Rogers County Health Department where she was responsible for the daily office scheduling.   During her tenure, Kay made many lifelong friendships. Kay was a loyal friend and always doing for others.
One of Kay’s favorite pastimes was gardening.  She loved to plant trees and flowers and some referred to her as an arborist.  Kay was always gardening and “had more flower beds than you could mow around.”   Kay enjoyed many hobbies but her most treasured time was spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved to have her grandchildren at her home to spoil them.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  Although Kay had what her family would call an ornery side, she was a strong woman with a great mind that loved and cared for her family.
