Wilbert “Dale” Jones

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Wilbert “Dale” Jones was 10:00 a.m. today in the Chapel of the Gardens at Rice Funeral Service.  Dale passed away on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.  He was 72.

Born in Claremore, Okla. on March 6, 1941 to David and Nathailyia (Brumback) Jones, Dale was raised and educated in Fairland, Okla.  On July 11, 1968 he married Prudy Maxson in a Miami, Okla. ceremony.  Their union was blessed with four daughters.  The family lived together in Claremore for 45 years. Their first home together was a house on Will Rogers Blvd which is now the Yarn Shop. The beautiful wrap around porch that Dale built still enhances this Claremore business today.

Dale was an exceptional father and taught his daughters many skills including how to maintain their cars, change their own tires and even how to do home improvements.  Dale’s work ethic was unmatched.  If he had a task or a job, he would see that it was completed.  He was a hard worker and a perfectionist.  His family said he could “fix anything except a broken heart.”   His wife Prudy said he could “take a wooden nickel and make gold out of it.”

As a truck driver Dale received the Million Miles award after he drove a million miles without an accident during his career.  He loved to tinker on and restore old cars and hot rods. He was also a member of the Route 66 Car Club.  Dale enjoyed spending time with and helping his many nephews with projects around their homes.

Another of Dale’s favorite pastimes included traveling.  He loved his trips to Canada, New York, Wyoming and Alabama.  He also enjoyed watching western movies, in particular True Grit and Lonesome Dove.  A great conversationalist, Dale liked to tell stories and entertain family and friends.  He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors.  Dale especially relished his canoeing and camping trips with his grandchildren.

This loving husband, father and Papa will be missed by all who knew him.  Dale is survived by his wife of 45 years, Prudy; daughters Mistey Book and husband David and daughter Zoë Ellen of Claremore; Sandra Harris and husband Michael and son Eric Kyle of Stroud; Cheryl Maxwell and husband Michael of Oklahoma City; and Carolyn Annanders and husband Jeremy and children William Dale, David Mitchell, Kristin Marie, Stormy John of Shawnee; 8 great grandchildren; sisters Davetta Cox, Ginger Jones and Claudette Godsey and husband Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Dale was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Billy and David.
