CLAREMORE — Jean Noreen Young was born in 1938 in Defiance County, Ohio.

She is the daughter of Fred and Ida Cook Birchmeier. She spent her early life traveling, as her dad worked on the pipeline construction projects. She was in the 4th grade when her family bought a farm in Emporia, Kan.

She attended Ruggles and Emporia High School graduation in 1956. She married Richard Young in 1959 in San Diego, Calif. Richard and Jean lived in San Diego, San Francisco, New Jersey, New  Mexico, Alaska, Kansas, Washington, and Oklahoma. Richard and Jean loved to travel and visited all 50 states.

They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and were Good Sam's Club members. Jean became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1972.

She worked for various hospitals and was an industrial nurse for Heston Corporation. Later in her career she was the Secretary/Treasurer for the family business, Industrial Electronics Corporation. Jean enjoyed her family and friends, particularly her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, shopping and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Young, Claremore, Okla.; daughter, Michelle Young, Tulsa; son Michael Young and his wife Sheli, Claremore; two grandsons, William Young and Steven Young, Claremore; one brother, John Birchmeier, Americus, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Jack Cook and William Birchmeier.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Claremore.
