Edwin “Ed” Cypert Oelenberger

CLAREMORE — Edwin “Ed” Cypert  Oelenberger, 86, of Chelsea, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the home.

Ed was born Aug. 4, 1927, the son of Fredrick and Emma Oelenberger in Marshall, Ark.

The family moved to Tulsa during his infancy, and he was raised and educated in Tulsa. Ed meet Jean in 1954, and they were just friends for a year before they started dating. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1956, in Tulsa.

They made their home in Tulsa before moving to Chelsea in 1965 where they raised their two children Eddie and Vickie.

Ed worked with the Hesston Corporation for several years as a fabrication supervisor and spent the last 10 years of his career with Tulsa Community College working as a Stationary Engineer before he retired in 1996.

Ed was a longtime member of the Washington Baptist church which he joined in 1966, almost 50 years ago. He loved NASCAR and watching Dale Earnhardt Sr. race.

Ed was an avid fisherman, a member of the Claremore Elks Lodge and loved watching sports on TV.

He will be remembered for his lighthearted sense of humor and his deep love for his family

Ed is survived by his wife Jean of the home; two children Victoria Jean Marang and Mark of Claremore, Edwin Fred Oelenberger and Pam of Statesville, NC; two adoptive sons Dwayne and Benny Hurst of Claremore; five grandchildren, Vikki Young of Broken Arrow, Ryan Oelenberger of Statesville, Justin Marang of Claremore, Bonny Marang of Claremore, and Jordan Oelenberger of Charlotte, NC; four great grandchildren, Phoenix Young, Kolden Oelenberger, Emma Guerrero and Ronan Young; as well as one sister-in-law Joan Oelenberger of Bartlesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Fred, Carl and Victor, one sister Louise Bland and one great granddaughter Ashley Rosemon.

Ed's family will receive friends at the Washington Baptist Church of Claremore, 14751 S 4230 RD, Claremore, OK, on Sunday, March 9, from 4-8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.

Funeral services for Mr. Oelenberger will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Washington Baptist Church of Claremore. Pastor Charlie Lehman will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.
