CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Betty Joe Johnson will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service.

Betty passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. She was 89.

 Born on May 4, 1924 in Anadarko, Okla. to David and Hazel (Shetley) Graves, Betty was reared and educated in the Claremore area. After graduation from Claremore High School Betty attended college at Oklahoma Military Academy and continued her education at several trade schools as part of her ongoing effort to be the best City Treasurer. She served the City of Claremore as Treasurer for 25 years.

 On June 22, 1949 Betty married Pat Johnson and their union was blessed with three sons. Betty was a wonderful mother, doting on her children and taking care of them. Family was important to Betty and Thanksgiving was always a special holiday where as many as 100 family members would gather for the big meal.

  As a charter member of the Women’s Health Auxiliary, later known as the Pink Ladies, Betty was involved in her community and had many friends. Betty loved to dance and loved to have a great time. She was a fun loving person who people enjoyed being around.

 This loving wife, mother, sister and friend will be missed by all who knew her. Betty is survived by Pat her husband of 64 years; son Chris Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; siblings Denyse Hedgpath, David Ann Ward and husband Carl, Darla A. Davis and husband Jim. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sons Pat Jr. and Winfield, brothers Bill L. and T. Jack Graves and sister Delourice Casey.
