Betty Jo Stonebarger

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of Betty Jo Stonebarger will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, September 5th from 1-7 with family receiving visitors from 5-7 at the funeral home. Betty passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013. She was 84.

Born near the Arkansas River bottom in Muskogee County on Nov. 27, 1928 to John and Ollie (Carroll) Fuller, Betty was the youngest of eleven children. Raised and educated in her birth community Betty grew up helping with work in the kitchen and on the farm. Her family sold milk from their Jersey cow and raised corn and tobacco. Her mother taught her the art of baking, a skill that Betty implemented her whole life.

On Jan. 24, 1948 Betty married Jess Stonebarger in Muskogee, OK and from that day forward Betty affectionately became Jess’s “Mert.”  Their union was blessed with three sons. In 1964 Claremore became home for the family. For Betty, her first priority was always her family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were special holidays for the whole family and the invitation was extended to everyone. Betty enjoyed spoiling her children and grandchildren, often making everyone their own individual favorite pie or cake. Great grandchildren were spoiled as well, having their own designated special day with their great grandmother.

A woman of great compassion and many talents Betty kept busy with several charities, groups and hobbies. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, helping out with mailing packets. Betty was an active member of the Red & White Booster Club and a dedicated volunteer at the baseball and Little League concession stand. An avid quilter, crafter and sewer, Betty loved to work on her various projects, sometimes even if that meant Jess had to miss a meal so she could finish her task. She quilted a flying geese pattern, towels with lace, tree skirts and much more. In her spare time, Betty liked to do crosswords, read books and newspapers or catch up on her soap opera.

This loving wife, mother and grandmother will be missed by all who knew her. Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years Jess; children Larry Stonebarger and wife Trudy, Gary Stonebarger and wife Sharon, and Bill Stonebarger and wife Teri; grandchildren Melissa Vanderhoof, Zac Trosky and wife Amanda, Rebecca Stonebarger, Jesse Sixkiller and wife Andrea, Tami Wooten and husband Glenn, Sabrina Stonebarger, Bryan Sixkiller and wife Lisa, Amanda Stonebarger, Jenny Marti and Timothy Stonebarger; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Duby Fuller and Margaret Hayes. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Jaime Trosky, six brothers and four sisters.

In lieu of flowers or other condolences consider making a contribution in Betty Stonebarger’s name to a charity of your choice.
