CLAREMORE — Graveside service for Mary “Jewell” Cantrell will be 11:00 a.m., Thurs. Sept. 12, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Jewell passed away on Sun., Sept. 8, 2013.  She was 87.

Born on May 31, 1926, in Eucha, Okla. to Clarence and Willie Mae (Calvert) Thurman; Jewell was reared and educated in Jay, Okla. until her family moved to Pryor, where she graduated from Pryor High School.  On May 8, 1946, Jewell married Jack Cantrell and made the Claremore area home for many years before moving to Big Cabin.   

Jewell loved children and enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Blue Starr Church of Christ.  A proud mom, she attended all of her son’s games, cheering him on.  Jewell was an avid OU football fan and she also followed the Dallas Cowboys.  When those grandsons came along, she was most happy to be their babysitter.  Jewell loved to read and spent many hours reading her Bible.

A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Jewell will be missed by all who knew her.  Those family members that survive include her husband Jack of their home in Big Cabin; her son Tony Cantrell and wife Jackie; her grandsons Cody Hawk Cantrell and Gabriel Blue Cantrell all of Big Cabin; her brother Earl Thurman and wife Marion of Duncan, Okla..  Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rhonda Jean Cantrell and 5 sisters.
