It has been learned that Lt. Governor Jari Askins’ Claremore itinerary, which included a tour of the County Jail and presentations by County Sheriff Jerry Prather, was apparently influenced in part by the fact that the hosting Chamber Board of Directors chairperson has a close relationship with Sheriff Prather.

Assistant District Attorney Barry Farbro, who temporarily forgot the nature of that relationship, raised questions regarding Askins’ travel schedule at last week’s Chamber Board meeting and wondered out loud whether or not the proper jailhouse authorities had been notified of the visit since HE, the county legal advisor, knew nothing of it.

Farbro withdrew his quasi-litigious query when he was summarily reminded by Board Chair Myrtle Prather that she “sleeps with the Sheriff” — who runs the jail — and “I think it will be alright.”
