One of Northeastern Oklahoma’s greatest Christmas parades occurs this week on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Claremore Christmas parade will feature local bands, businesses, community organizations, cheerleaders, floats from various churches and even a visit from Santa Claus.

In America, we parade at Christmas mostly for commercial reasons. Little is said about the real reason for the season. Be reminded that we celebrate Christmas because of a young couple who were in a strange place that ultimately resulted in them seeking shelter in a manger for a baby to be born who would change the world.

This year’s parade, sponsored by your hometown newspaper, the Daily Progress, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, features the Sounds of the Season. Entries will be reflect the reason for the season in Christmas Carols such as “Away in the Manager” as well as “Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer.”

Let’s hope that we all remember the joy, kindness and peace Christmas was meant to bring to the world. Let us carry that spirit throughout the rest of the year to all people regardless of race, creed, or national origin.
