As the Christmas season gets into full swing, an unpleasant fact should not be forgotten. The incidences of suicide and substance abuse increase during this time of year. The period from Thanksgiving to New Year’s comes with additional stress that may lead to overindulging in drugs or alcohol to cope.

The Cherokee Nation’s Behavioral Health programs are here to help.

Behavioral Health services are easy to access. Simply visit a Cherokee Nation clinic and ask for help. Services range from substance abuse treatment and programs to prevent drug and alcohol abuse and other risky behaviors. Family therapy, counseling, relapse prevention and crisis intervention services are also offered.

There is no better gift to give your family this holiday season than the gift of a clean, healthy loved one. If you have struggled with addictions in the past, I encourage you to take the first step today toward a new you in the new year. Your family will thank you for it.
