First UMC offers grief support groups

CLAREMORE — The First United Methodist Church of Claremore extends an invitation to those who have experienced the death of a loved one to attend one of its Grief Support Groups.

Understanding Your Grief will be offered on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 15. This is a general grief support group for those just beginning their grief journey and for those who have been on the journey for awhile.

The group will be led by Norma Graham and Pat Dexter, both are Stephen Ministers and both have experienced significant deaths in their own lives.

Child Loss Class will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 14. This group offers help to those who have experienced the loss of a child (of any age).  It is this group’s mission to offer a time of caring and sharing which brings healing and hope.

The group is led by three couples (Dan and Teresa Dexter, Rhonda and Scott Mayfield, and Linda and Shelton Layman) who have experienced the loss of a child themselves.

Both groups are offered free of charge. For more information, contact Rev. Janelle Brammer, Minister of Care and Support Ministries, at (918) 341-4580.

  • HIEHLE - Stop Signs and Red Lights

Have you ever run a red light or stop sign? If you have, it was probably not something you meant to do or want to repeat. You didn’t mean to, but maybe you were distracted or focused elsewhere.
Then, as you realized your error, your heart skipped a beat. Hopefully, an accident did not occur.

  • ROUND - When You Lived Behind Bars

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” ~ John 8:32 (NIV).

Clad only in a pair of plaid pajama pants, he crossed the street and walked down the alley behind a row of businesses. I was startled. As I approached the parking lot near the courthouse, I crossed paths with several deputies. Taking in the scene before me, I realized the barefooted man, whose arms clutched a few belongings, had been a prisoner in the county jail. He had been set free.
