Claremore church to host Watoto Children’s Choir

CLAREMORE — Eastern Hills Baptist Church will host the Watoto Children’s Choir in Claremore this month, bringing the message of hope and transformation to the people of Rogers County.

Entitled “Beautiful Africa: A New Generation,” the tour began in Dallas, Texas, and is currently in the midst of a six-month junket across America, making stops in Albuquerque, N.M., St. Louis, Mo., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City and Claremore, Okla., among others.

With original African music, dance routines, and stories of life transformation, the tour is indicative of the new generation of leaders emerging out of “Watoto” — a holistic care program, initiated to serve the needs of Africa and its people.

“Through the choir’s Concert of Hope, we share a message of transformation by telling the story of Africa’s rescued orphans and women. We hope to reach out to audiences with the message of Christ’s healing power,” said Gary Skinner Watoto founder.

The Watoto Children’s Choir presents a high energy fusion of contemporary gospel and traditional African rhythms. This globally-acclaimed Watoto Children’s Choirs has traveled internationally since 1994 as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty.

Each of the children who perform in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents. They live in Watoto Children’s Villages where they receive the care and nurture they need to grow up as productive citizens of their own country.

Since its inception, 64 choirs have traveled globally, providing the children with a bigger worldview, an unusual opportunity they would otherwise never get. The choirs have been to Australia, Brazil, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, France and the U.S, among others.

The Watoto Children’s Choir will present their program at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, March 9 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Fore more information, call (918) 341-7069.
