Dock Dogs highlight 3rd Annual Expo

CLAREMORE — While “getting your ducks in a row” may be the common euphemism for getting things organize, for Jean Hurst, a more appropriate idiom would be “getting your dogs in a row.”

As Claremore Animal Shelter supervisor, Hurst and her staff are currently finalizing last minute details and preparations for next week’s Claremore Dog Expo.
“We’ve still got a lot of work to do before we ‘open the doors’ so to speak, but we’ll have everything set up in plenty of time. People won’t have to worry about this year’s Expo not being ready come Friday,” Hurst laughed. Slated for Aug. 25-26, the third annual Claremore Dog Expo boasts a weekend full of family- and canine-friendly events and activities for dogs, dog-owners, and dog-lovers.
“For people who’ve been the previous (Dog Day) Expos, they’ll be glad to know we’re bringing back several favorite events,   most notably the Dock Dog competitions. Those were a huge hit the first two years, and we’re confident they’ll be an even bigger hit this year,” she said, “but we’re also introducing some new things to the itinerary which we think will really be crowd-pleasers.”
Hurst said she expects the Dock Dogs to make the same “splash” as it has in years past, with competitions again open again to persons over the age of seven and dogs of any breed.
In previous years, competitors from half a dozen different states converged in Claremore to compete, with at least as many states expected to be represented again this year, Hurst said.
“We will also be featuring dog adoptions from the local shelter and rescues groups,” Hurst said, “and we’re presently scheduling demonstrations such as Herding, Agility, Schutzen, Rallying and a Dog Drill Team.”

  • HIEHLE - Stop Signs and Red Lights

Have you ever run a red light or stop sign? If you have, it was probably not something you meant to do or want to repeat. You didn’t mean to, but maybe you were distracted or focused elsewhere.
Then, as you realized your error, your heart skipped a beat. Hopefully, an accident did not occur.
