School supply drive

CLAREMORE — Members of the Claremore Regional Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $2,000 to the Rogers County School Supply Drive.

Over 2,600 needy public school children have received back-to-school supplies through the program, sponsored by Claremore First United Methodist Church.

This is the 13th year that the church, with the help of other churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals, has provided the supplies based on each county school’s required list by grade.

Around $49,000 has been spent so far to provide the supplies. “We still need donations to help defray the cost of this year’s supplies,” said Ray Dawson, project coordinator, pictured far left.

The drive will end Thursday. To make a tax-deductible donation, call 341-4580 or mail your check or drop it off at the church, located at 1615 N. Highway 88, Claremore, 74017. You may also donate online at http://www.supplyachild.org.

Have you ever run a red light or stop sign? If you have, it was probably not something you meant to do or want to repeat. You didn’t mean to, but maybe you were distracted or focused elsewhere.

  • ROUND - When You Lived Behind Bars

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” ~ John 8:32 (NIV).

Clad only in a pair of plaid pajama pants, he crossed the street and walked down the alley behind a row of businesses. I was startled. As I approached the parking lot near the courthouse, I crossed paths with several deputies. Taking in the scene before me, I realized the barefooted man, whose arms clutched a few belongings, had been a prisoner in the county jail. He had been set free.
