Rogers State University and East Central University are partnering to host a one-day “academic boot camp” on July 17 in Claremore that will provide a one-stop opportunity for veterans to get information about career and educational opportunities.

The academic boot camp will help veterans navigate the college landscape, including topics such as the application and admission process, financial aid, academic readiness, resources for veterans, and career opportunities. The event, which is free and open to the public, also is open to current members of the national guard or military reserves.

The drop-in event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, in Conference Room A in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center on the Claremore campus.

The event is geared specifically for former and current military members to allow them to meet directly with university representatives about starting or completing a college education or other post-secondary programs. Common topics will include deciding on career goals, choosing a major, navigating the admission process, fully utilizing financial aid opportunities to pay for attending college and living expenses, sharpening academic preparedness, and identifying the people and places on campus that will help students succeed on campus.

RSU’s Educational Opportunity Center is partnering with East Central University’s Veterans Upward Bound program, which has received U.S. Department of Education funding to address the educational needs of former and current military members in Oklahoma.
